Book Nook Lady

Hi, I am the Monday afternoon, Book Nook Lady. For over 25 years I was Mrs. Warnecke, kindergarten teacher. I always thought working in a library or a book store would be the next best thing to teaching and now I work in a book store in the library.

It couldn’t be any better.

We have a fabulous children’s section in the Book Nook. There are many picture books for the little ones. For Older children there are chapter books. I’ve seen old favorites and even some Harry Potter books. There was one that I was skimming the other day which contained everything a child should know by the sixth grade. I was ok in the language and literary parts but there were some surprises in Math and Science. You know – you are never too old to learn something new.

This summer, twice while I was working, a young girl came in with her mother. They were vacationing up north and needed reading material. It was amazing watching her select the books for that week. She would buy stacks and stacks of chapter books and be back for more the next Monday. What a voracious reader! (And she paid around $15.00 for each weeks reading.) Now that’s a good bargain for a lot of enjoyment!

Children's Books

Children's books fill the shelves of the Children's section in the Book Nook. Due to generous donors, we have a good selection and many titles and age groups to choose from on the shelves.

"Collectables" Section Added

Books that are more valuable are being featured in a "Collectables" bookcase in the Book Nook. These books have been evaluated and a description and pricing sheet has been placed in each selection. Come in and check out the new "Collectables" section.

Excerpt Friends to Friends Spring 2006

Friends of West Branch Public Library, Friends to Friends, Spring 2006 Book Nook Have you had an opportunity to visit the NEW and improved, Book Nook? Because of the expansion project of the Library, a decision needed to be make about the basement area. The volunteeers who staff the Book Nook thought this was the ideal time to expand and renovate.....so they did !! A portion of the new basement area has been cleaned, carpeted and invaded. There are many advantages to this move. The Community Room now has considerably more floor space allowing accessibility to larger groups. The Book Nook now has more space and improved lighting. Both areas have access to handicap restrooms on the basement level. With new carpeting and freshly painted shelves the Book Nook is really taking on an upscale appearance. The volunteer staff continues to work toward giving it a "homey" look....it is a work in progress. Monthly promotions have also been developed ( horror stories/mystery novels for October, books with a holiday theme for November/December, Romance novels for February, get the picture?) Last year the Book Nook generated $4569.62. As always we ask that you consider donating your gently used books to the Library either for use in the Library or for sale in the Book Nook.

The Book Nook has settled into its new spot in the library and we are ready for visitors.
